The Open Channel Magdeburg belongs to the “community television” sector. We work with a few full-time staff, many national and international volunteers and interns from universities, schools and other educational institutions to create a place that supports individuals and groups, initiatives, schools and anyone who wants to make television.  We provide professional TV equipment free of charge, support numerous social groups (young people, people with migration and flight backgrounds, senior citizens, women, disabled people) in the production of films and TV reports. In addition to organizing the broadcasting and production operations, we initiate media projects in the field of cultural and political education. The aim is to support people in articulating their own needs and interests in the medium of TV by imparting media competence, to strengthen local communication and to create publicity for the concerns of the broadest possible sections of the population. The Open Channel sees itself as a component of civil society. The Open Channel Magdeburg is a TV station which can be received in approx. 200,00 households in Magdeburg and Saxony-Anhalt via cable as well as via livestream worldwide. We rent TV equipment free of charge and support individuals and social groups in the production of films and TV reports. We also initiate local, national and international media projects in the field of cultural and political education. The Open Channel sees itself as a component of civil society.
